Chapter 14
Sometimes we find ourselves asking the never ending question of why. I often was left clueless as to why shit always seemed to happen to me. Well, for once I was seeing that the universe has a funny way of dealing with things. Kell attacking me, had a bigger effect than he even knew. It actually forced Jahrein to deal with his son.
I guess that Jah had been battling with himself, and possibly was experiencing guilt for making an outside child. But at the end of the day, my son was his. And I think that it took for him to be placed in harms' way for Jahrein to see that despite anything that is still his child.
“I can't get over that hoe ass nigga, man. And what type of people would stand by and just watch?” Jahrein vented as he sat on my couch, the same night after the incident with Kell.
“I don't know.” I dried my tears for the hundredth time. I was an emotional wreck. I was really beginning to think that I was in this world by myself. My family didn't seem to give a shit about me, or my child's well-being. I don't give a damn that Kell's been around the family for years. I'm their fucking flesh and blood!
I think my family thought that my sleeping with Jahrein warranted their mistreatment on some level, because even as I'm getting slapped nobody stood for what was right. They all treat me like shit, which just confirms that I was right in not considering Lissa's feelings when I fucked Jah. Shit, nobody stopped to think about me.
Fuck them.
“You don't need to ever go back over there again.” Jahrein went on as he stood up.
“I won't,” I agreed as I stared at him. For a second I thought that he was about to leave, but he stepped over to the baby's swing, and lifted his tiny body. My heart skipped a beat, as I watched him hold our son. More tears welled up in my eyes, as I witnessed what I'd been anxiously waiting on.
“He's sleeping good,” Jah smiled as he took a seat with JJ in his arms.
“That's all he do.”
“I see.” Jah rocked the baby. “That nigga better be lucky that nothing happened to him.”
“Humph.”
“Sup, little man? You cooling?”
JJ responded with a yawn.
“I guess that's his way of saying ‘hell yeah’,” Jahrein yawned himself. “Damn, I'm tired.”
I rolled my eyes. “Let me guess. You gotta get ready to go home.”
He nodded as he grabbed a blanket, made a pallet on the couch, and gently lied the baby down. It was obvious that he was seasoned in dealing with babies. Most dudes were too scared to multi-task with a little baby in their arms.
“I gotta go.” He stood. “Come lock the door.”
“Okay.” I pouted, as I followed him to the door.
He pulled the door open and then turned to me. To my surprise he pulled me into his embrace. “I'll be back.” he kissed my cheek.
